Obituary for Betty B. Sutter

Betty B. Sutter, age 85, of North Branch, died Monday, January 8, 2018. She was born February 18, 1932 in Lapeer, Michigan, to Wesley and Ruth (Lynch) Butterfield.

Mrs. Sutter graduated in 1948 from Lapeer High School. She married Robert Alton Sutter on October 7, 1950 at the Deerfield Church of Christ. In 1964 Betty and Bob decided to open a campground, they cleared and developed the 40 acres in North Branch that became Sutter’s Recreation Area. Bob and Betty owned and operated the campground from 1964-1994, when their son took it over. It remains owned and operated by the Sutter family today. Betty was a lifetime church member, attending both Deerfield Church of Christ and Country Christian Church. She was a dedicated Christian… serving in many capacities, attending bible study and teaching Sunday School for many many years. Mrs. Sutter loved her family dearly… her life was devoted to family, church and the campground.

Betty is survived by her children: Dan (Sharon) Sutter of Almont, Rick (Cindy) Sutter of Grand Blanc, Scott (Tina) Sutter of North Branch, Peggi Armstrong of Hillman and Jill (Dean) Scarcelli of Channahon, IL; son-in-law, Paul Brown of Lapeer; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Bob Sutter; daughter: Patti Brown; son-in law: Charlie Armstrong; seven infant grandchildren; her parents; siblings: Frank Butterfield, Ralph Butterfield, Max Butterfield, Roy Butterfield, and Veda Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Suncrest Auxiliary, 1455 Suncrest Dr., Lapeer, Michigan 48446.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday, January 12, 2018, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Betty’s funeral service will be 11AM Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Country Christian Church, 5677 N. Lapeer Rd, North Branch, MI 48461. Pastor Rick Yarbrough will officiate, with burial to follow in Deerfield Twp. Cemetery. The family will also receive friends 10-11AM Saturday, at the church, prior to the funeral service. After burial in Deerfield Twp. Cemetery, a funeral luncheon will be held at Country Christian Church. Condolences and memories may be shared at
