Obituary for Gladys Eva Griffin

Gladys Eva Griffin, age 92, of Davison, formerly of Attica and Waterford, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 25, 2017. She was born February 27, 1925 in Pontiac, to Walter and Eva (Wheeler) Reese.

Gladys graduated from high school in Birmingham, and went on to become a “Rosie the Riveter”. She helped to build Aircraft Bombers during World War II, at the Willow Run Plant. Gladys married Jack Griffin on September 18, 1964, at the Faith Baptist Church in Waterford. Mrs. Griffin was a born again believer, she was actively involved with the music ministry at Calvary Baptist Church in Waterford and each church she attended. After moving to Attica, the Griffins joined the Thornville Baptist Church in Metamora. Gladys had a beautiful voice she used to sing God’s praises, and shared that gift at each of the churches she attended. She was an accomplished artist, painting wonderful oil paintings on canvas. Mrs. Griffin was great cook and baker, everything she made was good, but her molasses cookies were especially tasty.

Gladys is survived by her husband: Jack Griffin of Davison; children: George (Sheila) McLeod of Lapeer, Dan (Paulette) McLeod of Sault Ste. Marie, Rob (Carol) Griffin of Imlay City and Lorie of Waterford; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; siblings: Sue (LaVerne) Clarke of Mt. Morris and Gene (Mary) Reese of Coleman, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her children: Tom Griffin, Jack Griffin and Jeannette McLeod; parents: Walter and Eva Reese; and siblings Walter, Esther and Loretta “Goldie”.

A memorial service for Gladys will be held 11:00AM Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Thornville Baptist Church, 3094 E. Dryden Rd., Metamora, Michigan 48455. The family will receive friends from 10:30AM until the time of the service. Pastor Fred Leuck will officiate the service, which will be followed immediately by a funeral luncheon. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer.
