Obituary for Gloria Ann Collins

Gloria Ann Collins, age 83, of Columbiaville, formerly of Vernon, Connecticut, died Monday September 18, 2017. She was born April 16, 1934 in Connecticut, to William and Marion (Rankin) Ullmar.

Gloria retired from Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, Connecticut. She was known as "Hot Rod" in High School, she was a "Spitfire" in everything she was involved with. Ms. Collins enjoyed gardening, travel, cruises, cats and all animals. Gloria was a member of the Eastern Stars, an avid Boston Red Socks fan and University of Connecticut Women's Basketball fan. Gloria's passion, though, was politics, politics and more politics. She was active with the Democratic Party in Connecticut, where she served on the State Central Committee, she was also the chairperson for the City of Vernon Democratic Party, the campaign manager for many many political races and rubbed elbows with some of the most prominent politicians in the New England area. Gloria was proud to have been a Democratic Electoral Delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, at the Staple Center, representing Connecticut.
She was also an alternate delegate to 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Gloria is survived by her children: Henry "Randy" Ransom Collins of Sandwich, New Hampshire and Tamara (Duane) Hunt of Columbiaville ; grandchildren: Andrew Boutcher of Detroit and Daniel (Amanda) Boutcher of Silverdale, Washington; great-grandson: Joshua; daughter-in-law: Susan Collins of Fort Pierce, Florida; and cousins: William (Arlene) Ullmar of East Hartford, Connecticut and Michael Ullmar of East Hartford, Connecticut. A special thank you is extended to the "Angels" that cared for Gloria, Ashley and Jaime. She was preceded in death by her son: Hugh Arthur Collins, Jr.; parents: William and Marion Ullmar; and siblings: Joyce Ullmar, Kathleen Ullmar, Georganna Ullmar, and William Ullmar.

No formal service will take place at this time. A memorial service for Gloria will take place at a later date, in Connecticut, where she will be interred along with her family.
