Obituary for John Earl Dowling, Sr.

John Earl Dowling, Sr., age 85, of Whittier, California, formerly of North Branch/Lapeer, died Friday, December 22, 2017. He was born September 15, 1932 in Brown City, to parents Francis and Jesse Murl (Callendar) Dowling. He married Barbara Ann Cole on November 3, 1951 in Lapeer. He was a former member of Liberty Street Gospel Church and Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer. After moving to California 35 years ago, he joined the Green Hill Baptist Church in LaHabra, California. After Barbara's death in 2007, he married Beverly June Bell.

Mr. Dowling is survived by his wife: Beverly Dowling; sons: Richard(Kathy) Dowling of Whittier, California and John (Sue) Dowling, Jr. of Bluffton, Indiana; special daughter, Cheryl (Rob) Harmer of White Lake; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Leota (Richard) Kreiner, Viona (Ray) Bowerson and Lois Hilgendorf; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Barbara; his parents; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be 4-7PM Friday, January 5, 2017, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. John's funeral service will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Calvary Bible Church, 923 S. Main St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Rev. Arnold Bracy and Rev. Jeremy Lazzell will officiate the service, with burial to follow in Dawn Memorial Cemetery in Lapeer. A funeral luncheon will be held following the funeral service at Calvary Bible Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to WMPC Christian Radio Station.
