Obituary for Joyce Southwell

Joyce Southwell, age 85, of Prudenville, Michigan, entered heaven Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born April 25, 1932 in Flint, to Wallace and Marion (Bacon) Shaw.

Joyce attended Kearsley High School and her family than moved to Northern Michigan. She married Ronald Dean Southwell, Sr. on April 14, 1978 in Burton, Michigan. Joyce worked almost 25 years as a secretary for Mid-Forest Lodge in Prudenville, a private hunting lodge, where she also lived. She was active in the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church. Mrs. Southwell loved to serve her Lord and Savior throughout her lifetime….she was the Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, leader of the missionary guild and anything else she could help with. She had a special gift for supporting and encouraging family and friends. Joyce was a much beloved wife, mother and grandmother. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Metacare Adult Foster Care in Metamora.

Mrs. Southwell is survived by her children: Deirdre (James Ingles) Biddis of Flint, Valerie (Henry) Young of Flint, Wallace (Lucy) Corwin of Oxford and Joseph (Alejandra) Corwin of Indiana; step-children: Ronald (MJ) Southwell, Jr. of Canada, Donald Southwell of Midland, William (Sandra) Southwell of Illinois, Rosemarie (David) Wardrop of Ferndale, Cheryl Southwell of Ohio and Kay Southwell of Swartz Creek; many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ronald Southwell, Sr.; parents: Wallace and Marion Shaw; and siblings: Richard Shaw, Charles Shaw and Rose Harris.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer.
