Obituary for Col. Allen Robert Schutter

Col. Allen Robert Schutter, age 98, of Lapeer, formerly of Bradenton, Florida, died Sunday, March 31, 2019. He was born March 21, 1921 in Halfway, Michigan, to parents John Frank and Hilda Amelia (Moritz) Schutter.

Allen was proud to have served his country in the Marine Air Corps for 25 years, as a fighter pilot, during World War II and the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Laurel Evelyn Schmidt, on July 20, 1946 in Royal Oak, Michigan. Mr. Schutter was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks , the Bradenton Florida United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Col. Schutter is survived by his children: Robert Allen Schutter of Orion Twp., Michigan, Barbara (Michael) Martin of Lapeer, Nancy Schutter of Carbondale, Colorado and Bonnie (Paul) Burton of Howell, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Laurel Schutter; brothers: Harold Schutter and John Schutter; and sister: Betty Porter.

Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Mr. and Mrs. Schutter’s cremains will be interred together at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will have a committal service at Great Lakes for both of them on July 26th at 1:00 P.M., with military honors for Mr. Schutter.
