Obituary for Frederick Clayton Sontag

Frederick Clayton Sontag, Sr., 84, of Clifford, died Thursday April 18, 2019. He was born November 14, 1934 in a cabin in Ubly to parents Herbert and Martha (Petty) Sontag. Fred married Wanda Featheringil on August 27, 1955 in Lum.

Mr. Sontag worked in maintenance for the Oakdale Center, Lapeer, retiring after many years. He was and a big sports fan, especially; baseball, football and hockey. Fred enjoyed bowling, golfing and hunting. He played in a local country and western band for 25 years, called “the Country Starlighters”, Bill & Betty Robinson were in the group too. There were a lot of fun memories surrounding the band, even playing live on local radio. Fred was famous in his world, well known around Lapeer County. Above all else, he is remembered by his family as a “great dad” who made people feel loved and was loved in return.

Mr. Sontag is survived by his daughter: Kathryn (Erique Delgado) Sontag; sons: Fred (Maria) Sontag, Jr.; Stacy Sontag, many grandchildren, several grea-grandchildren, siblings: Eleanor (Billy) Adler; Bill Sontag as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Wanda Sontag, sisters: Arlene Brewster; Iva Evans; Alfreda Batzlof; Carol Woodward and his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted with Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. No formal services are scheduled.
