Obituary for Gary Cecil Nelson

Gary Cecil Nelson, age 79, of Metamora, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was born April 5, 1940 in Detroit, to Russell and Roxanne “Irene” (Cogburn) Nelson.

Gary graduated from Lincoln Park High School, in Lincoln Park, Michigan. He met the love of his life, JoAnn Nieman, at Lincoln Park High School and married her May 20, 1961 at the Methodist Church in Lincoln Park. Mr. Nelson worked many years for Earl C. Smith Trucking, as a dispatcher….he also worked as a dispatcher for several other companies. Gary was a member of the Lincoln Park Masonic Lodge #539, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing, and time spent with family.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife: JoAnn Nelson of Metamora; children: Marvin Nelson of Metamora, Russell (Margi) Nelson of St. Clair Shores and Roxanne (Earl) Boyle of North Branch; grandchildren: Dustin (fiancée: Nikki) Burke of Laingsburg, Michigan, Jessica Nelson of St. Clair Shores and Mary Nelson of St. Clair Shores; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Russell and Roxanne “Irene” Nelson; and sister: Ruby Faybik.

The family will receive friends from Noon-4PM Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. No formal funeral service will take place. In keeping with Mr. Nelson’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Please share condolences and memories at
