Obituary for Kathy Nowicki

Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Nowicki, 77, of Metamora, (formerly of Sterling Heights), passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

Kathy was born November 20, 1941 in Detroit to Maxwell and Margaret (Hankerd) Sargent. She graduated from Dominican Catholic High School (Detroit), class of 1959. She married James “Jim” Nowicki on June 30, 1962 in Detroit, Michigan. Kathy went on to earn her associate’s degree in nursing but chose a career as a legal secretary – she retired in 2001. Kathy absolutely loved her family and time spent at family gatherings. Her “happy place” was the family cottage – “The Oasis”. Five generations of Kathy’s family have enjoyed the beloved cottage.

Kathy is survived by her three daughters: Janet (Mark) Varner of Davison, Kristin Plantrich of Jacksonville, FL and Erin (Michael) Kennedy of Lapeer; eleven grandchildren: Nick (Megan) Varner, Samantha (Matt) Fruehling, Taylor Varner, Cody Varner, Jenna Varner, Summer Varner, Ben Plantrich, Sarah (John) Bauer, Lanie Plantrich, Maxwell Kennedy and Griffin Kennedy; two great grandbabies: Charlie and Grace; sister, Sharon Hiel of Punta Gorda, FL. Kathy is also survived by four adored nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nowicki in 2001 and her aforementioned parents.

In keeping with Kathy’s wishes a private memorial has already taken place. Cremation services have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
