Obituary for Lucie Annette Rhadigan Hiner

Lucille Annette Rhadigan Hiner, 79, of Lapeer died on Friday, May 17, 2019 following a long illness.

Lucie was born November 16, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Roland and Clara Germaine “Geri” (Caron) Rhadigan. She graduated from Centerline High School, class of 1957. Lucie spent her life caring for, loving and raising her four children. The greatest values Lucie instilled in her children were to be passionate and family-centered. Her family described her as a loving, nurturing, visionary. She was encouraging, forgiving, inspiring, and a role model renaissance woman. On December 27, 1979, she married Charles K. Hiner at Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer. Chuck and Lucie were best friends, partners, business partners, husband & wife for 40 years.

Lucie’s artistic passion manifested itself in every aspect of her life: her family, her friendships, her art, the gardens she nurtured and loved so deeply and, of course, Past Tense. Lucie created, owned and, with her family, built and operated Past Tense Country Store, Past Tense Arts & Antiques, Past Tense Cider Mill and Past Tense After Dark. Since 1971, Past Tense has brought joy and family memories to many, many people. Her creativity and vision have driven much of the Past Tense success and has ensured the future success of the family business as Lucie’s children and grandchildren continue the Past Tense legacy she began.

Lucie is survived by her husband, Chuck Hiner; their children: Mark (Gayla) Lechner of Lapeer, Daryl (Marie) Lechner of Chesaning, Celeste (Doug Quinn) McKeon of Lapeer, Michael (Jodi) Land of Spanaway, WA, Christopher (Ruth) Hiner of Southfield and Michael (Jenna) Hiner of Norfolk, VA; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; siblings: Thomas Rhadigan of Gladwin, Irene (Mike) Lauretti of Harrison, Coleen (Larry) Nadolski of Mims, FL, Diane (Richard) Sauger of Chesterfield and Floyd Rhadigan of Saline. Lucie was preceded in death by her brothers: Gerald Rhadigan and Robert Rhadigan; sister, Yvonne Pikulski and her aforementioned parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Karmanos Cancer Institute at Lapeer, ATT: Tammy Brown, 1295 Barry Drive, Lapeer 48446 or to McLaren Hospice, 1515 Cal Drive, Davison 48423.
