Obituary for Edward Leslie Haver

Edward Leslie Haver, age 85, of Metamora, died Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was born April 3, 1932 in Port Huron, to Willard and Edna Mae (Weidenbach) Haver.

Mr. Haver attended Dryden High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Bethany “Beth” Swett on October 12, 1951 in Oxford. He was a heavy equipment operator on major construction sites in the Detroit Metro Area, including the M-14 and U.S. 131 expressways and the Pontiac Silverdome. Edward worked for M & B Construction (Mancuso Brothers) and B & V Construction, where he proudly served as a delegate to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters… along with Jimmy Hoffa. He was also a member of the Heavy Equipment Operators Union. Mr. Haver was a longtime member of the Metamora Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief for many years. The Havers owned a 1929 Seagrave Firetruck, taking it to many many parades, shows and functions. He was also a member of the Metamora Village Council for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Haver enjoyed traveling extensively, converting a cargo van to a camper and driving everywhere from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the Arctic Ocean. Each winter they traveled 3-4 months all over the country. They also enjoyed being members of the Lapeer Square Stompers… traveling and performing with the Square Dance Group all around the State of Michigan. Mr. Haver loved and adored his grandchildren, he was the biggest supporter and cheerleader of their many activities.

Ed is survived by his wife: Bethany “Beth” Haver of Metamora; children: Manley “Chris” (Sharon) Haver of Clinton, Michigan, Paul (Patty) Haver of Boyne City and Phylena “Tina” (Kris) Kline of Holt; grandchildren: Kristopher, Shanna, Matthew, Chris and Jonathon; great-grandson: Coltin; brothers: Bill (Esther) Haver of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Lavern (Carolyn) Haver of Fairhope, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by children: Daniel, infant son Edward and infant daughter Sandra; parents: Willard and Edna Mae Haver; and brother: Charles Haver.

No formal service will take place at this time. In accordance with Ed’s wishes cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Metamora Fire and Rescue. Condolences and memories may be shared at
